Werksteam

Werksteam is a sans-serif typeface inspired by the bold aesthetics of retro race cars and the raw energy of Group B rallying. Its high x-height and narrow proportions create a compact yet agile look, reminiscent of the precision and speed found in motorsports. The typeface maintains a strict vertical rhythm, ensuring that capital letters, ascenders, and descenders share the same height, resulting in a uniform and structured appearance.

Developed over the course of a semester-long study in type design, Werksteam follows the principles of sans-serif construction while exploring new ways to balance function and personality. The process began with hand-drawn sketches, refining proportions and letter relationships before transitioning into digital form using Glyphs 3. Attention to detail was key, from stroke weight distribution to subtle optical adjustments.

Rooted in the legacy of classic sans-serifs with it’s clean, technical aesthetic makes it well-suited for display applications. Evoking the golden era of motorsport, Werksteam is built for performance.
