Who forgives our digital sins?

The Digital Confessional is an interactive art installation that reimagines the Catholic confessional for the digital age. Using sarcastic humor, it critiques rigid religious concepts of sin and absolution while encouraging reflection on modern online behavior.

At its center is an AI-powered booth where visitors confess their "internet sins" to an artificial priest. The AI, with a voice modeled after a real person, responds with cynical humor and assigns digital penance. A minimalist 3D eye, inspired by biblically accurate angels, symbolizes divine surveillance and omnipresent judgment.

The installation consists of a handcrafted wooden booth, a cabin, two screens, and several pedestals. The AI-driven interaction classifies sins into the seven deadly sins and prescribes penalties like subscribing to newsletters or deleting social media accounts, blending satire with social critique.

A custom Python script powers the AI, integrating speech recognition, synthesis, and sin classification. By merging technology with religious symbolism, The Digital Confessional sparks conversation about morality, surveillance, and digital ethics in a hyper-connected world.
